Official Studeous Blog now on Studeous Blogging Platform
Posted on Nov 8, 2008 at 6:50 pm

Until today, The Official Studeous Blog has been written on WordPress. Why? Because upon its creation, we did not have our own blogging platform. Today we have moved to The Official Studeous Blog to the Official Studeous Blogging Platform...right where it belongs.

 Welcome home.

Classes starting soon, thanks from Studeous
Posted on Aug 16, 2008 at 2:35 pm

With classes starting soon and teachers putting the finishing touches on their curricula, we want to thank all the teachers who have helped us with Studeous over the summer. I wasn’t too long ago that Studeous was just an idea. Now it is a reality. We could not have made Studeous the revolutionary learning platform that it is, without the direct input of the teachers, students, and administrators that have given so much to make Studeous what it is today.

That said, we are not done. We will never be done improving and innovating. Although Studeous is already changing the lives of teachers across the world, there is always more to be done. Keep sending us your comments and suggestions. With your continued help, guidance, and advice we can continue to make this the new standard in e-learning.

You asked, we delivered, Blogging Platform has arrived
Posted on Jun 25, 2008 at 8:06 pm

Our brand new blogging platform is now live. It’s very cool - to get started just go to your desk/locker page, then click “Create New Blog.”

We made blogs very flexible - you can make them:

  • private
  • attached to a class
  • private to a teacher
  • visible to your entire school
  • visible to the world via a URL

You can also:

  • attach an image to a post
  • attach a file to a post
  • enable/disable comments
  • choose to approve new comments

Thanks to our teacher advisory board for all their good ideas and support.

Let us know what you think.

Studeous 2.0 beta portal is now live
Posted on Jun 9, 2008 at 10:45 am

After weeks of fun, but hard work here at Studeous, we are proud to announce the release of our new portal re-design—Studeous 2.0. We have also, changed our logo (new logo below). We will soon launch our new cover site that will be filled with useful information, complete with an extensive “About Us” section so you can get to better know the team that is Studeous.

As you may know, this summer is all about making Studeous bigger and better. The new portal is a step towards this goal. We have been receiving a flood of emails recently of ideas for new features. Literally, from all around the world. It is exciting to see such a positive reaction to our mission—to commodify e-learning.

We believe every teacher in the world deserves an opportunity to use e-learning. By offering a system that is free, easier to use, and more useful than the highly priced existing enterprise solutions, we hope to commodify e-learning. This is a revolutionary idea in an industry that rarely sees such innovation, but it seems to be working well so far.

New face of Studeous on the way
Posted on May 5, 2008 at 4:23 pm

It has been a busy Monday, here at Studeous. We are in the process of completely redesigning the Studeous cover site (adding a executive board page, advisory board page, history of Studeous, etc.) and making some exciting visual changes to Studeous Beta, as well. We haven’t set a date for the release of the new cover site, but I can promise that it will be soon. So, get excited about that.

In other news, Studeous is creating quite the buzz in the internet world. We have been featured in many blogs and have experienced exponential growth in the number of codes requested to sign up for Studeous. Our VP of Online Marketing, Ben Peterson, has been swamped with emails asking for more information about Studeous, thus reason for the new site.

Although the academic year is coming to an end, it seems that Studeous has just begun.

The “Teacher Advisory Board” has been assembled
Posted on May 4, 2008 at 6:53 pm

Recently, we created the Teacher Advisory Board which consists of teachers from all over the country in many different fields of education. These teachers have a unique passion for our vision and goals for Studeous. This select few will have the opportunity to view preliminary designs of new features and give there two cents on what’s good, what’s bad, and what could be changed. This is in an effort to make Studeous the best e-learning tool in the industry.

The Teacher Advisory Board will have access to preliminary designs and ideas for Studeous and well as be able to interact with the founders on a personal level. If you would like to join this board, please send an email to Jeff Stein at jeff@studeous.com explaining why you want to be on the Teacher Advisory Board.

Making Use of Studeous
Posted on May 4, 2008 at 2:28 pm

Special thanks to David at MakeUseOf.com for his review of Studeous.

"I can’t even count the number of times both teachers and students have complained about paid services that their respective institutions utilize. Well, now comes Studeous, a free (and better) alternative that allows for online collaboration in the world of academics."

New feature: Chat is now local to class page
Posted on May 4, 2008 at 1:14 pm

Now that the school year is coming to an end, students and teachers will be taking some time off from Studeous. So, what will we be doing with all this time on our hands?

Well, the Studeous.com home page will be getting a new 2.0 redesign and Studeous will be getting tons of new features. Whenever we add one of these new features to Studeous, we will post “New feature: _________” to let you know what it is and give us feedback.

Our first new feature is making chat local to the class page. This way, teachers will have their own secure and private chat rooms for their classes that only their students will be able to join. Also, we gave teachers the option to turn the chat feature on and off so that they can control when their students are chatting. We are currently working on a feature that will auto record the chats and display them on the class page (UPDATE: This feature is now available). This will allow students who missed the “online office hours” or “after school tutoring” to see what was discussed, without the teacher having to go in and copy and paste the chat transcript to a word document and upload it.

This is in an effort to make the chats more secure, more private, and more educationally focused.

The E-Learning Revolution has begun!
Posted on Mar 31, 2008 at 5:46 pm

Well it’s been a crazy two weeks here at Studeous. We’ve been fielding a lot of questions and we’ve had a great response about the system. We are happy to announce that teachers are now using Studeous in the classroom, and it’s working great!

Last week we got featured in a news article in The Daily Texan here in Austin. Credit goes to Katie Flores for a wonderfully well-written article and Andrea Lai for a great picture.

I just wanted to give everyone an update and ask for any ideas for things you want to see in Studeous. No idea or comment is too small, so just let us know.

Give Me a Code!
Posted on Mar 25, 2008 at 4:01 pm

It has almost been one week since the official launch of Studeous private beta and we have had an enormously positive response. Teachers from all over the nation are sending us their emails requesting codes to see this groundbreaking new system for themselves. We are very excited to see such a positive response from the academic world. Remember, we want to know what you think about Studeous, so send us your comments! Studeous can only get better and smarter, and it will with your suggestions. We have received comments from teachers wanting to make it easier for their students to sign up, so we made it easier. Now, once you create a class, you will receive an “enroll” link to give to your students. It is as easy as clicking a link for them to sign up and get to your page. We have many new features coming just around to corner, so keep checking back for more news on that, and keep using Studeous!
